Broadford under 19s beat their Mallaig counterparts by the odd goal in seven, in a fiery encounter.

It was Broadford who took the lead early in the game when Connaire Yoxon played through Callum Mattinson who slid the ball under the approaching goalkeeper. The mainland side managed to take the lead with goals from Andrew Cunningham & Cameron Muir, 2-1, with two goal in quick succession.

The tackles continued to fly in but Broadford managed to equalise. Mattinson delivering what seemd to be an unthreatening cross but a lapse in the Mallaig defence allowed John Macinnes to score at his second attempt. Mallaig then retook the lead straight from the kick off. Broadford’s refusal to press the ball allowed the Mallaig captain Rhys Macleod to score from the half way line.

It took a moment fit to win any game for Broadford to equalise, Yoxon picked up the ball and released a spectacular dipping 30 yard strike which eluded the Mallaig ‘keeper. It turned out it was to be a penalty to decide the fate of this game. Jamie Graham, a major target of tackles throughout, got the better of the Mallaig defence before being fouled. It took Broadfords captain Martin Mackinnon to step up and put the penalty away in style. Young Fraser Graham was Man of the Match. We are hoping to host them for a return match in February.
